Leadership traits develop with experience and training. In this blog, you will learn how to lead, direct, and control a team effectively. Managing a team and getting results is a rewarding job.

To manage the team efficiently, one needs to own leadership skills, and Google has seen this in its internal research. Having worked with a few companies, I can share insights that can support you in mastering leadership skills like a pro.

Here is the list of leadership traits every person needs to have to do justice to the managerial role:

Leadership Traits #1. Can Guide and Coach Team Members

To define leadership (In simple form): A person who can get tasks done. Has the skills to operate and manage people to generate positive results.

Junior executives at the start of their careers need more experience and direction. Leaders with skills and knowledge come to their rescue, and they train them to reach their full power.

The toll on the mental and physical self helps one realize their true potential after years of service in the company. Managers rise from the bottom and learn the true meaning of the company’s vision. They have a good grasp of the subject and can clearly guide others in the team.

A leader must have grit and patience toward subordinates’ work. They should learn from their mistakes and equip themselves to do the job. Only possible when a leader has a plan.

Leadership Traits #2. Enables the Team to Work with Trust and Does Not Micro-Manage

When a junior can work with set guidelines, they produce positive results. But when a manager tries to check every aspect of the process. Things start to go haywire — creativity kicks in when there is clarity, not when in chaos.

People like to work with clarity. If there are no set instructions for action, then the expectation should be clear to avoid confusion. Leaders believe in people’s talent to complete the task without doubting their worth.

To seek updates continually is the worst habit of every professional leader. To do or not to do depends on how juniors have received it. The choice is yours. Proceed with caution. Often colleagues get irritated when asked for a status update on the work beforehand.

The best rule to pursue is to set real hopes for all. Treating everyone equally and appreciating the best and motivating the rest. This method works best.

Leadership Traits #3. Understand Team Challenges, Engage and Boost Growth, And Raise Awareness of Well-Being

The best outcome often occurs when working in a team, not alone. A manager should have good listening skills to know the team’s challenges. If an individual lacks process/ personal skills, the manager should help/train them with skills and supply them with tools.

Google thinks that a leader should help people who lack skills to grow.

A leader starts by setting the right example so that juniors can follow. Fitness and general well-being are crucial factors for doing quality work. Plus, a leader should lead and influence peers to be in the right mind/physical state to win.

Leadership Traits #4. Focus on Productivity and Results

The main goal of every leader is to generate revenue from the business. If that’s not happening, they are doing something wrong. Productivity takes a hit. A leader should be bold in his approach and set intentions clear from the beginning of the task. Being strict on deadlines with staff is vital for pushing the process to success.

Leadership Traits #5. Powerful Communication Skills.

Every employee should communicate clearly at every stage of the business. This assists in finding obstacles at the start, and business runs in a smooth form. If an employee cannot communicate clearly, it is up to the manager to hold on to him or let him go.

One has to be prudent and think from a business risk if an employee is a liability or an asset. Associates can learn how to communicate with clients & vendors. A quality that will provide them with the tools to build trust.

Leadership Traits #6. Support Career Development and Shares Feedback on Performance

Workers want to grow and have a rise in career and status. A leader should motivate peers to achieve targets. A person’s qualities indicate to the manager whether to consider him for the next grade. A set regime should be defined to encourage employees to achieve their goals.

A leader should consider an employee’s performance and offer them a bonus to hit their mark. This token will boost their morale, and they will do well next time too.

Leadership Traits #7. Have Clear Goals/Strategy Set for The Team

Setting goals for subordinates is the role of a leader. If put right with proper rewards, the result will start flowing in. The manager should work freely with each associate to maximize the outcome of the process.

A manager’s actual skill is to spot the strength of each member. And allow them to mold according to their skill set towards a common goal.

Leadership Traits #8. Possess Technical Skills to Help

Technical skills are like weapons for a leader. If used wisely, victory is for sure. Managers should be aware of their strengths and weaknesses to achieve success.

Soft and hard skills are imperative for nurturing the self and the team.

Leadership Traits #9. Collaboration

If a person is good at building and maintaining relationships, he can succeed in sales. He could get big orders if he can influence a buyer’s mindset. Last, if he can control, train, and provoke the team’s attitude to get sales results, it will maximize sales ten times.

The actual ability to work with people highlights the traits of a leader.

Leadership Traits #10. Sound Decision Maker.

Making wise decisions at the right time is needed for success. Every leader maintains this skill to produce success every time.

Takeaway

Leadership traits don’t come to a person overnight. It takes many sleepless nights to master — a toll on the mental and physical state of learning science. I worked with some skilled managers and some impotent non-productive, slow-ass people. I have cracked the secret of the skill set required to succeed. The above insights work best in a business area.

In simple terms, empathy, patience, decisiveness, and problem-solving fit perfectly.
